Spring Break Ski Camps
The dates for spring break this year including weekends are March 8 to 17 and the first session of the Silvertip Spring Break Camp begins on March 11. Camp include three days of skiing and snowboarding focusing on either downhill or freestyle skills for skiers ages 5 to 12 and snowboarders ages 8 to 12. Call the Mountain Learning Center at 754-2280 for more information.
Anders Osborne Band
Triple-threat singer, songwriter and instrumentalist Anders Osborne has been hailed among the most original and visionary musicians writing and performing today. New Orleans based Osborne is known for the sheer force of his guitar playing, the depth of his songwriting and the straight-from-the-soul conviction of his vocals. Anders and his band will perform at the Sitzmark on March 8 and 9. Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased online or by calling 754-2275.
New Yoga Classes
The Spa at Alyeska is offering new yoga classes in March and April on Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m. in The Hotel Alyeska. The new class is geared towards skiers and snowboarders with a focus on restoring tired muscles, opening hips and increasing strength and range of motion, which will translate into improved form and balance while skiing or riding. The ongoing Vinyasa yoga sessions on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. and Sundays at 9:30 a.m. will continue through ski season. Classes cost $15 per session. Private classes are available upon request. Potcheen/Saint Patrick’s Day
Ultimate party band from Colorado, Potcheen will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at the Sitzmark for three nights March 15-17. The band plays Irish pub standards with flavors of bluegrass, zydeco, punk, jam, blues and rock all rolled up in a pirate sensibility. Show starts at 10 p.m., 21 & over. U16 Races
Alyeska Resort is proud to host the USSA Western Region U16 Junior Championships from March 19 to 23, 2013. This event will showcase 175 of the top 14 and 15-year-old alpine racers from the five divisions of the Western Region and consists of Super G, Giant Slalom and Slalom competitions. The winners of each discipline and the combined will be named to the USSA Junior Championships Team and will automatically qualify for the Western Region Elite FIS Series in the following season. This is an exciting chance to come watch these young, elite competitors in their quest for a place on the US Ski Team.
Absolut Trivia
Join host Jason Marsh every Wednesday at the Sitzmark for Absolut Trivia Night in March and April. Teams of up to six people can compete in this epic battle of wits. All players will be entered in a raffle to win a private snowcat for twelve, and additional raffle tickets will be awarded to those who purchase Absolut cocktails. Games begin at 7 p.m.
Alyeska Chugach Open
The 2013 Alyeska Chugach Open is a multi-discipline, big mountain comp on March 29 and 30. The two days of competition will take place on the Headwall and will be open to Alpine, snowboard and Telemark athletes. First place in Men’s’ & Women’s’ Snowboard, Alpine & Telemark divisions win a seat on a heli-ski day trip with H20 Guides in Valdez. Register and view more event details online or call 754-2274.
Challenge Alaska Snowblast
Come out and support Challenge Alaska Adaptive Ski and Snowboard School for their annual fundraiser on March 23. Celebrate the sport of skiing and raise money while you’re at it. Collect at least $150 in pledges and receive a lift ticket, t-shirt, breakfast, lunch and a chance to win a Katmai bear-viewing trip. Seven Glaciers Wine Dinner
Sunday, March 24 at 7 p.m. Seven Glaciers Restaurant will host a Wine Dinner featuring Pine Ridge Vineyards. Established in 1978, Pine Ridge produces expressive wines that embody their history and distinct place of origin in Napa Valley. The evening includes a Chef’s Tasting Menu to complement the featured wines, available for $150 per person, 21 and over. Easter Festivities
Mountain Top Easter Sunrise Service at Glacier Express will take place from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., with Tram uploads beginning at 6:45 a.m. Bring the kids to meet the Easter Bunny at the Hotel Pond Courtyard for a lively Easter egg hunt beginning at 9:15 a.m. The Pond Café will offer an Easter Brunch Buffet on March 31 with seatings at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Adults cost $42, children 6 to 12 are $21 and kids under 5 are free.
