Girdwood musher Nicolas Petit heads down 4th Avenue in Anchorage during the ceremonial start of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race on Saturday, March 2. This is Petit’s third straight Iditarod. The smiling husky is Petit’s pet “Ugly” who was only participating in the ceremonial start. As of Wednesday morning, March 6, Petit was in fifth place, 15 minutes behind leader Lance Mackey.
